Yesterday, late afternoon in the El Paso hot sun, on an ordinary Sunday all was quiet.  Then a fellow fire fighter walked in to announce an email from Fire Chief D’Agostino.  

The email read:

It is with great sorrow that I pass on to you the loss of our brother Chris Hayes. His battle with pancreatic cancer ended this afternoon. May god bless him and his family during this difficult time.

Carlos Briano will keep everyone updated as funeral arrangements are made.

Please place flags at half-staff until further notice.

Chris Hayes was loved by everyone on the Fire Department and was said that he could do no wrong. Our fire family is forced again to let one of her own return back to the earth from which they came.  

The family has asked for us to celebrate his life and to join with them:
