  • Retired Captain Jim Cox
    Posted On: Aug 26, 2009

    James Clyde Cox "Jim"

JAMES (JIM) CLYDE COX, 80, was born in Winters, Tex as on April 17,1929. He died peacefully at Vista Del Sol Hospital in El Paso on Aug. 18, 2009. Jim faithfully served his country for four years in the Air Force. Following his honorable discharge from the armed services, he moved to El Paso where he joined the Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain. While fighting a fire Jim suffered a massive heart attack and retired from the Fire Department. Jim always had strong interest in aviation. After his retirement, he built and flew a single engine two seater, with an open cockpit, which he joyfully flew locally and around the country with family and friends. He would often recount how the color scheme he chose for his plane would only show red when approaching and yellow while departing and how it would automatically "trim out" at the designed cruising speed. He married Carmen Terrazas in El Paso on Aug.19, 1956. Together, they shared El Paso life for 53 years and their passion for traveling and camping around the nation, particularly in their beloved Rocky Mountains and Pacific coast. As much as Jim loved aviation and flying, he equally loved and enjoyed the numerous dogs they owned and who were coddled as if they were royalty. Jim is survived by his wife Carmen; a sister Iris A. Arcadi of Old Town, Florida; several brother and sister-in laws, and many nieces and nephews, all who now mourn the passing of their "Uncle Jim". Visitation for Mr. Cox will be on Sunday, August 23, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at El Paso Mission Funeral Home. Vigil Service will be on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 7 p.m. at El Paso Mission Chapel. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Rafael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Directed by EL PASO MISSION FUNERAL HOME. 2006 YANDELL Dr. 562-9999
